Day 3 - The Garden

Ted - our Leader - a singularly driven and inspiring individual

Claire prepping our tools for the day ahead...

along with Ailyn, both very protective of our beloved Neko (the nickname for our wheelbarrows)

Simon chatting up Kana, our resident TV reporter

On the way to our next job, the crane in the background is a sea-based rig, highlighting our proximity to the sea. The house to the left has collapsed as its foundations were swept away

This would become a very typical sight...

The carcass of a Corvette deposited in a random garden

The brother of the owner of our new project, unfortunately she was in hospital at the time

The entrance to the garden, where you can say the cake like layer of dark sludge (this is 2 months after the tsunami). In the background you can see the kindergarden...

...whose back wall was blown out by the water...

...and ended up lying in the next door garden.

The garden was also the resting place for dozens of decaying bags of rice....even the masks could not hide the putrid smell

The mud carried everything and anything away in its path - hundreds of shards of glass, crockery, sporting goods, books & photo albums, home appliances - all sucked into a thick viscous black slime.

A days worth of mud and junk extracted from the garden...

satisfying but exhausting

Across the road, the shelled out remains of the local Bridgestone tire dealer

The entrance to the kindergarden

The end of Day 2...

Spot the difference from the beginning of the day...

Pasta night - dinner offered the opportunity to relax and reflect on the day...

...and, in part because of yours truly, get involved in heated discussions about random topics

Our own personal yoga instructor....

...some were more flexible than others
